What is PCIT?
PCIT, Parent Child Interaction Therapy, is a family therapy to build skills for parents and children (ages 2-7). PCIT is effective to improve children’s behaviors and parents’ feelings of agency. PCIT includes playing with your child to improve your relationship with your child.
PCIT is a structured approach and includes:
Weekly sessions for 14-16 weeks
Education sessions to teach parents:
How to engage child
How to manage behaviors
How to give clear instructions and consistent consequences
Coaching sessions
Conducted in playroom with therapist observing through one way window
Allows for therapist to provide real time feedback
Bolsters parents’ skills and confidence
